Sourced figures: prices in the table carry their source and check month. Published fares are not our offers, and fees change.

Mikumba Diving publishes a 10-day sample naming both Bunaken and Lembeh, sold for November and December, though we read no dated departure of it. LiveAboard.com lists 22 liveaboards for Lembeh Strait and 5 for Bunaken, so search any trip page for the word Bunaken before paying. If those two areas are your whole plan, Bluewater and Neptune's guide both point to staying on land.

Do boats really combine Bunaken and Lembeh?

Two operators say so, and neither gives a date we could read. Mikumba Diving publishes a 10-day, 9-night sample in both directions, on its boat Jelajahi Laut, and sells its Sulawesi trips for November and December. Starting at Lembeh, it gives the strait days 1 to 3, Sangihe days 4 and 5, Bangka day 6 and Bunaken days 7 to 10, ending at Manado Harbour. The reverse ends at Bitung Harbour. Mikumba calls these samples and says the route may vary. The routes page sets them beside the other published trips.

Neptune Liveaboards' Bunaken guide describes the stronger North Sulawesi crossings as linking Bunaken, Bangka, Lembeh and Halmahera on the way south to Sorong. That is an operator's sketch of a pattern, with no sailing, stop list or night count attached.

Test any trip by what its own page names. The table sets out published trips that touch this corner of Sulawesi. A stop can sit further down an itinerary than the title, so a missing name in a title is a prompt to read on, not proof of absence.

White Manta's title says North Manado, and a reader could take that as shorthand for the park off Manado. The page does not support that reading. Treat it as a trip to the places it lists, and look elsewhere if Bunaken is the reason you are travelling. The operator's rating matters here too: it calls the trip Intermediate to Advanced, with medium to strong current, which is a different proposition from the usually gentle current Neptune's guide describes at Bunaken.

Why do Lembeh listings outnumber Bunaken listings?

The counts come from LiveAboard.com's Lembeh page and its Bunaken page, checked in November 2026. They count listings, not boats, and one vessel can appear on several pages. Neither page explains the gap, so what follows is our reading and not a sourced finding.

Bitung is a working start and end point. La Galigo embarks and disembarks there, Mermaid runs its Togian trips from there, and Wallacea Dive Cruise finishes its Sorong crossing there. Bitung faces Lembeh Island, so a boat using that harbour has the strait on its doorstep. Bunaken has less pull on a boat's schedule, and Mikumba's Bunaken-ending sample is the one trip we have read that finishes at Manado Harbour. LiveAboard.com's figure for the hop from Manado to Bunaken Island is 30 to 45 minutes, and Neptune's guide goes further, saying you do not need a boat for Bunaken at all and that a focused week may sit better at a resort.

A Lembeh tag does not tell you how much time you get in the strait, a point covered on the Lembeh Strait liveaboard page. And the two marketplace ranges in this page's price table are separate figures for trips listing each area. Neither is the price of a trip that includes both, and adding or averaging them would produce a number nobody has published.

How far apart are the two by road and sea?

Close enough to share one holiday, though the direct sailing time between them goes unstated. These are the legs that do have a stated source.

Mermaid and White Manta quote different drive times for the run to Bitung. We show both rather than a blended figure, because they are two companies describing two slightly different destinations. For a traveller, the practical point is that moving between the areas on land means a boat back to Manado and then a drive, with luggage and dive gear. For the time a boat would need at sea, ask the operator about your own departure, since a general answer tells you little about the route it will actually sail.

What would a land-based pairing look like instead?

Two published reference points exist. Bluewater, a dive travel agency, reckons on 12 to 15 nights for Bunaken, Bangka and Lembeh if you want an unhurried pace on land. Murex's Passport to Paradise sample spreads 22 guided boat dives over 12 nights in Manado, Bangka and Lembeh, and its 2025 to 2026 rates are in the price table on this page. Equipment hire and the Bunaken entrance fee are left out of it, so those sit on top. It is a published resort example, not a package of ours.

The trade-off is control against range. On land you decide how many days each area gets, and you can change the split. Bluewater's Indonesia guide treats resorts as a good fit for both areas, and keeps liveaboards for remote regions and combination routes. A boat makes more sense when these two areas are only part of a longer route, and our boat or resort comparison sets out that wider choice. The Sulawesi liveaboard guide maps the longer routes by region.

These are also different kinds of diving. Neptune's guide sets Bunaken's big scenery and clear water against Lembeh's black sand and tiny subjects, with visibility nearer ten metres. If you are unsure which you want more, read how the diving differs between Bunaken and Lembeh before you worry about logistics. Someone who only cares about one of them has no need for the pairing at all.

What should you ask an operator about Bunaken days?

Ask these about your specific departure, and keep the answers in writing.

  1. Does the itinerary for my date name Bunaken, and on which days?
  2. How many dives are planned inside the park, out of the trip total?
  3. If conditions push the boat away from Bunaken, what replaces those days, and is anything owed back?
  4. Who buys the park e-ticket? A Bunaken-based resort states that the park has sold only electronic tickets since 1 June 2025, and that anyone found inside without one pays five times the normal fare. Treat that as the resort's statement until a park office confirms it.
  5. Is the Bunaken charge inside a marine park line on my invoice, or billed apart? That resort's daily figures appear in this page's price table, and the Bunaken entrance fee guide covers why older numbers still circulate.
  6. Does the boat dive Lembeh, or only embark there?
  7. Does the trip's experience rating apply to the Bunaken days as well as the rest of the route?

If an operator replies in general terms about the area, treat that as a no until the itinerary says otherwise.

Which published prices did we check?

Published fares, marketplace ranges and operator add-ons, each with its source and the month we checked it. These are not our offers. Fares and fees change, so check the source before you rely on a figure.

What do readers also ask about pairing Bunaken and Lembeh?

Can I combine Bunaken and Lembeh on one liveaboard?

Possibly. Mikumba Diving publishes a 10-day, 9-night sample naming both, sold for November and December, and Neptune Liveaboards' guide sketches crossings that link them. We have read no dated departure naming both, so ask for one.

How many nights does a Bunaken and Lembeh liveaboard take?

Nine, on the one sample we have read. Mikumba's trip also spends days at Sangihe and Bangka, so ask how many days your departure gives each area. For a land-based plan, Bluewater reckons on 12 to 15 nights across the two plus Bangka.

Is White Manta's North Manado trip a Bunaken trip?

No. Its stops run from Lembeh through Biaro, Ruang, Siau, Mahagetang, Para and Nenung to Bangka, and the word Bunaken was absent from the page when checked in November 2026.

Does a boat fare cover the Bunaken entrance fee?

Not necessarily. Some published prices keep park charges apart, and the Murex resort sample excludes the Bunaken fee outright. Ask who buys the e-ticket and how the charge will appear on your invoice.

Is a resort simpler for these two areas?

Yes, if they are your whole plan. Neptune Liveaboards says you do not need a boat for Bunaken, and Bluewater treats resorts as a good fit for both. A boat suits a longer route better.

What will a Bunaken and Lembeh trip cost in 2027?

No combined figure is published. This page's price table gives separate marketplace ranges for trips listing Bunaken and trips listing Lembeh. Neither is the price of a pairing, so ask for a dated fare.
